Agricultural Affairs

Goal / mission: 

OAA’s primary mandate is to promote and facilitate exports of U.S. agricultural products.

Basic facts about section/agency:

  • OAA depends on the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)
  • OAA is under the supervision of a regional FAS attaché based in Rabat, Morocco 

What we do:

  • Maintain close contact with Tunisian Agriculture Government Officials as well as public and private agribusinesses
  • Assist U.S. exporters to make business contacts and understand the Tunisian market
  • Recruit and sponsor potential buyers to visit U.S. food shows and organize marketing events
  • Work closely with USDA-sponsored industry organizations such as US Wheat Associates, US Grains Council to sponsor several outreach activities
  • Manage USDA’s credit guarantee programs and several fellowship programs such as the Cochran Fellowship Program 

Some figures

  • 2007 U.S.-origin agricultural imports to Tunisia reached nearly $ 193 million, an all-time high
  • Agricultural trade accounts for nearly 40 percent of the overall value of U.S. origin goods shipped to Tunisia
