Ambassador Walles is sharing Iftar with director, instructors and young athletes of the La Marsa Maison des Jeunes.
In support of the Olympic ideals, Ambassador Walles visited the La Marsa Maison des Jeunes to share an Iftar with the director, instructors and young athletes of the center. Ambassador Walles met with young athletes and coaches, including the girls’ basketball team and donated sporting equipment-including equipment for the Olympic sports of basketball, football, handball, table tennis, and weight lifting. Following the Iftar, the Ambassador and the athletes watched the USA-Tunisia men’s volleyball match. The Ambassador recognized the important role of the La Marsa Maison des Jeunes in providing a place for young Tunisians to gather and participate in sports and community activities. Particularly during the Olympics, we are reminded that sports provide a unique atmosphere of learning and cooperation that spurs young and old alike to work together and to strive to do their best. When the modern Olympic Games began in 1896, the goal was to promote peace and cooperation between the nations of the world, and even to prevent conflicts, through increased understanding and respect – and the Olympic Games still play that role today.
