Opportunity for 2008/09 US Student Fulbright Grantees: UNESCO Fulbrtight Fellowship Program 2009/10
The Institute of International Education (IIE) is pleased to announce the opening of the UNESCO Fulbright Fellowship competition. Now in its seventh year, the program will provide up to five 2008/2009 U.S. Fulbright Program participants the opportunity to serve at UNESCO headquarters in Paris for a period of six months following the completion their grant. Funded by a grant from the United Nations Foundation/Better World Fund, the competition is administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE) in New York.
The program will allow selected grantees to contribute to the advancement of the work of the United Nations and UNESCO, learn from UNESCO staff, and gain valuable professional experience to cap off their Fulbright program abroad. While all degree levels will be considered, recent graduates and master’s degree applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
FELLOWSHIP PERIOD:
Most assignments will begin on September 3, 2009 and will last for six months. For some placements, it may also be possible to begin assignments on January 2, 2010 upon request. If you are selected and unable to begin the fellowship when requested, you will be disqualified.
Since most positions will require that Fellows start in September 2009, 2008/09 grantees whose original grant period ends after September 3, 2009 will be eligible to apply for the UNESCO Fulbright Fellowship Program in 2010/11, if offered.
Eligible grantees should refer to the Fulbright website in March of 2010 to verify the program is offered and if they are eligible. Likewise, 2007/08 Fulbright grantees whose original grant period ended after September 1, 2008 are eligible to apply for the 2009/10 competition. Grantees may only apply for the UNESCO Fulbright Fellowship once.
FELLOWSHIP AREAS:
Communication and Information, Cultural Expression and Creative Industries, Education Policy and Analysis, Education in Post-Conflict and Post-Disaster Situations, Natural Sciences, Human Resources and Finance
FELLOWSHIP STIPEND:
A travel and settling-in allowance, and a monthly stipend to cover their housing, meals, and incidental expenses will be provided.
