International Leaders in Education Program (ILEP)

The American Center is pleased to announce the availability of scholarships for educators to study and participate in internships in the U.S. for the period January - June 2010

Purpose:

The program will consist of a semester-long academic program at a U.S. university, including coursework, intensive training in teaching methodology, lesson planning, teaching strategies for the home environment, leadership development as well as the use of ICT in education.

Program sponsors and managers:

The International Leaders in Education Program (ILEP) is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.

Eligibility:

  • Must be a secondary-level educator;
  • Full-time teaching professional with a B.A degree or equivalent;
  • At least 5 years of classroom experience in any of the following disciplines:
  1. English as a Foreign Language
  2. Social studies
  3. Civics
  4. Mathematics
  5. Science 
  • Be a Tunisian citizen;
  • Have submitted a complete application;
  • Show fluency in English as demonstrated by a TOEFL score of 450 or higher.       

Financial Provisions of the Grant:

  • J1 visa support;
  • Round-trip airfare;
  • Academic program fees;
  • Accident and sickness insurance;
  • Housing (shared with other participants)
  • Allowance for meals & incidentals;
  • Transportation allowance;
  • Laptop computer and book allowance.

Please submit the original application and four complete copies (for a total of five copies). Each copy of the application should be submitted in the following order:
1.   Application
2.   Curriculum Vitae
3.   Statement of purpose
4.   Completed recommendation form and letter as well as a completed institution support form
5.   A sample lesson plan (if available)
6.   A copy of your passport (the passport should show enough time to complete the program)

Deadline:

All applications should be submitted by mail before June 5, 2009. Applications submitted after this date will NOT be reviewed.
