MEPI Local Grants Call For New Proposals

Tunis (Dec 22) - The U.S. Embassy in Tunis is pleased to announce an ongoing call for proposals for the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) Local Grants Program in Tunisia.

This is a continued funding opportunity for local members of civil society—including non-governmental organizations, universities, professional organizations, and women's groups—to undertake projects that promote civil society and/or, political or economic reform, encourage youth programs, promote public awareness, encourage women’s empowerment and promote educational excellence.  Interested parties should submit a one-page project proposal summary for a grant, describing the project strategy, plan of action, and timeline.

MEPI Local Grants in Tunisia

The Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI)'s Local Grants have proven to be innovative, timely, and effective responses to reform opportunities arising at the grassroots. In Tunisia, MEPI has worked with many local organizations, including AMIDEAST, which managed a project to upgrade the English language skills of Tunisian Journalists, DEFI SARL, a project entitled "Dialogue Tunisie Etats Unis" that hosted a series of roundtables discussing issues like "the media and extremism", a university of Wyoming-run exchange program between Tunisian and U.S. youth, and the Tunisian National School of Administration in conjunction with the Peregrine Leadership institute project that promotes mutual education and awareness of leadership principles and concepts relative to creating more effective governance and business management.

Some of the many projects funded by MEPI in other countries during this round of Local Grants included a project designed to strengthen the capacities of local NGOs working on reform initiatives through training programs and targeted consultations in Algeria, a Leadership and Advocacy skills development project aimed at equipping the youth with civic education, leadership and advocacy skills to affect positive change in their local communities in Egypt, and empowering Arab women through a non-formal integrated education kit in Arabic geared towards illiterate and semi-literate women in Lebanon.
