Giving Mothers and Children a Second Chance

United States Ambassador Robert F. Godec visited an orphanage and vocational training center for single mothers in Kairouan on October 16.  The Kairouan center is one of nine facilities throughout Tunisia operated by the "La Voix de l'Enfant Association.” 

In cooperation with the Tunisian Ministry of Social Affairs, the center was co-funded by the U.S. Government Humanitarian Cooperation Program and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency. The new facility in Kairouan provides care and protection to infants, kindergarten facilities, social counseling and vocational training opportunities for single mothers.

Ambassador Godec commended the association for its valuable work and was pleased that the United States could contribute alongside the Tunisian Government and other partners to the successful realization of this project."
