Statement from the U.S. Embassy in Tunisia
The U.S. Ambassador to Tunisia Jacob Walles met on September 17th with HE the Minister of Foreign Affairs Rafik Abdessalem. The Ambassador reminded the Foreign Minister of the duty of host countries under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations to take all appropriate steps to provide security for diplomatic missions. The Ambassador emphasized that the measures taken by Tunisian authorities on September 14th were inadequate to protect the U.S. Embassy. The Ambassador requested that the Tunisian authorities take all necessary measures to protect the Embassy and other American facilities in Tunisia, including the American Cooperative School of Tunis.
