DCM Natalie Brown receives a key chain crafted by a UNESI student.

Deputy Chief of the United States Mission in Tunisia Natalie E. Brown visited the Ecole des Métiers in Ariana on June 5 and met with officials of the Union des Ecoles Spécialisées et Intégrées (UNESI).  UNESI is a non-governmental organization that works with the Ministry of Education to promote special education for youth with learning disabilities.  During her visit, Ms. Brown reviewed plans for a 750,000 Tunisian Dinar extension to the Ecole des Métiers to be funded by the U.S. Government Humanitarian Assistance Program.  Construction of this extension will begin this summer, which will add several classrooms and workshops to the existing facility.

Ms. Brown met with students and educators at the Ecole des Métiers and noted the shared values between the United States and Tunisia in the area of disability rights and special education.  She commended UNESI for its commitment to the advancement of special education in Tunisia and said that the new and improved training center demonstrates the shared determination of Tunisians and Americans to insure educational opportunity for all Tunisian citizens.
